Consultation has concluded
You're invited to share your feedback on the King Street East Pilot streetscape project. The Pilot Project includes the proposed widening of the sidewalk on the north side of King Street East between Ontario Street and Mary Street North, which will allow for additional space for pedestrians, landscaping, outdoor patios/cafes, streetscape amenities and businesses.
Share your feedback on the future use of this additional space by ranking the following design options in order of your preference:
Option A (No Parking): proposes the permanent removal of all current parking to provide space for an outdoor patio/café in front of various business properties and the opportunity for festivals or gatherings in front of the Regent Theatre.
Option B (Flexible 12 Parking): proposes the use of bollards which would allow for the temporary removal of parking spaces generally in front of both the Genosha Hotel and Regent Theatre during times of high pedestrian use to allow for a café, festivals, gatherings. This option would maintain 12 potential parking spaces.
Option C (Reduced/Flexible 6 Parking): proposes the use of bollards which would allow for the temporary removal of parking spaces generally in front of the Regent Theatre during times of high pedestrian use to allow for a café, festivals, gatherings. This option would permanently remove the parking spaces in front of the Genosha Hotel while maintaining six potential parking spaces in front of the Regent Theatre.
At Service Oshawa, located at City Hall (50 Centre St. S.); or,
In-person at a Drop-In Open House, where participants can discuss the topic directly with City staff and rank the design options in order of their preference. The Drop-In Open House will take place in the front lobby of La Quinta Inns & Suites (63 King St. E.) between 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11.
Feedback will be received until end of day Friday, April 20, and considered in the development of the final design for the King Street East Streetscape Pilot project, to be presented to Development Services Committee and Council for approval this year.
Oshawa Downtown Streetscape Vision
Community members can also learn about the new “Oshawa Downtown Streetscape Design Vision” at the same Drop-In Open House on Wednesday, April 11.
The Streetscape Design Vision will guide the development of public areas downtown, with a specific focus on the Downtown Oshawa Business Improvement Area, and will include specifications for benches, trash receptacles, greenery and more while also investigating opportunities like sidewalk widening. Prototypes or photos of the bench and recycling receptacle will be available for viewing at the Drop-In Open House.
