Consultation has concluded
The City of Oshawa is seeking feedback on a potential new off-leash dog area, which would be located south of Highway 401.
Share your feedback on two potential locations:
Option A: Cordova Valley Park - This park is located at 811 Glen St. near the intersection of Glen Street and Malaga Road. This location proposes an off-leash area of up to 0.72 hectares, as well as construction of an accessible pathway from the parking lot to the entrance of the off-leash area. Cordova Valley Park provides a number of active and passive recreational opportunities for all ages and includes a playground and sports fields.
Option B: Stone Street Park - This park is located at 1535 Cedar St., south of Philip Murray Avenue, and is adjacent to the South Oshawa Community Centre. This location proposes an off-leash area of up to 0.37 hectares, as well as construction of an accessible pathway from the parking lot to the entrance of the off-leash area. Stone Street Park provides a number of active and passive recreational opportunities for all ages and includes a playground, sports fields and outdoor tennis courts.
Either option will have chain or wire fencing and be gated as per the City's Guidelines for Design and Placement of Off-Leash Areas. To learn more about the guidelines, refer to page 8 in the Report.
Have Your Say
Thank you.
Community members were invited to provide input in one of three ways:
On paper at Service Oshawa, located at City Hall (50 Centre St. S.) or South Oshawa Community Centre (1455 Cedar St.)
In-person at a Drop-In Open House at the South Oshawa Community Centre (1455 Cedar St.) on Wednesday, May 2 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Input received will be summarized in a report to be presented to the Community Services Committee.
Background
The City’s first off-leash dog area opened in 2007 and is a 10-heactre off-leash area within Harmony Valley Park (915 Grandview St. N.).
In September 2016, community members requested the City consider a second off-leash dog area to be situated south of Highway 401.
The request was reviewed along with available parkland and open spaces and in keeping with the City’s Guidelines for Design and Placement of Off-leash Areas. To learn more, view the Report and guidelines.
