Short-Term Rentals
Consultation has concluded
The City of Oshawa is undertaking an industry and public stakeholder consultation to discuss licensing standards for short-term rentals (S.T.R.) and S.T.R. companies (e.g. Airbnb, VRBO, HomeAway, etc.) operating within the city.
For the purpose of the consultation, S.T.R. refers to properties that are rented out as temporary accommodations for consecutive periods of twenty-eight (28) days or less, where the total number of days rented does not exceed a combined total of one hundred and eighty (180) days in a calendar year. This consultation excludes existing standards found in Zoning By-law 60-94.
Community members, S.T.R. hosts/operators, as well as S.T.R. companies are invited to participate in one of three (3) ways:
- complete a stakeholder-specific survey online on Connect Oshawa;
- complete a stakeholder-specific survey on paper at Service Oshawa, located at City Hall (50 Centre St. S.); or,
- discuss the topic in-person with City staff at a S.T.R. community engagement table on February 20 and/or 21.
Feedback will be received until 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, and considered in the development of regulatory licensing standards that will be presented to Corporate Services Committee.
